Boccia Sponsorship Presentation

Boccia Cheque Presentation

On 21st November 2019, our vice-chair Mark Harpur and sponsorship representative Mark Carter, presented a cheque for £500 to the Team Solent Boccia Team.

For those not familiar with Boccia (pronounced bot-cha), it is a game solely for disabled participants and is similar to bowls.  It was introduced in the 1984 Paralympics and for more information about the sport please visit https://www.bocciaengland.org.uk/what-is-boccia

Solent University set up a Boccia team in late 2018, and Team Solent Boccia has gone a long way in a short space of time. Their players have been very successful individually in the categories they compete and Saints Disabled Supporters’ Association feels very lucky to have been able to support the team with shirt sponsorship and equipment.  They play their home fixtures at Solent University but also play in national tournaments and boast players on the England and Team GB pathway so the SDSA gets plenty of exposure from this sponsorship.

This photo, taken at Solent University’s sports complex in November 2019 shows the SDSA’s Vice-chairman, Mark Harpur and head of Sponsorship, Mark Carter delighted to be handing over the sponsorship cheque to Team Solent Boccia’s captain, Peter Langton; coach, Barry Bowden and players; James Clowes and Will Arnott.

Team Boccia also kindly carried out a showcase of the sport at the SDSA Open Day in 2019 and gave attendees a chance to have a go at the sport.
