Level Playing Field did a survey earlier this year, to gather real-life matchday experiences of disabled sports fans, to help drive change toward better access and inclusion at sports stadia.
The survey provided the opportunity for club-specific feedback, which clubs can use to target what needs to be improved with their facilities and services.
Key findings included:
- Fans who thought ‘Attitudes of others is a barrier when attending live sport’ almost doubled, going from 15% in 2021 to 28.5% this year.
- Fans who said that ‘anxiety or lack of confidence is a barrier when attending live sport’ also increased rising from 24.5% to 26.5%, despite restrictions due to Covid-19 reducing.
- The number of fans who said ‘difficulty purchasing tickets’ was a barrier, rose from 17% in 2021 to 24% this year.
- Fans who said they are unable to attend certain sports or sporting venues due to lack of accessibility increased from 30.5% in 2021 to 36.5%.
