Hi, I’m Tara Doel and I have recently joined the committee in 2021 but have been a SDSA member for a number of years and regularly attend their Open Days at St Marys.

I was thrilled to be asked to join the SDSA committee and to be able to offer some of my time to contribute to the ongoing success of SDSA for our supporters.

I have worked in various sectors over the years including hospitality, cruise ships, cable tv & telecoms and for the past 20 years been working in the voluntary and charity sector in Business Development, Finance, Fundraising and back-office functions.

I have loved watching football on TV since the early/mid 70’s but it became really exciting in 1976 when it was our turn to shine in the Cup Final. I can remember clearly the build-up & collecting all the cuttings from the Echo, my yellow rosette with the shiny FA cup on it and that wonder goal. I finally got to go to The Dell after much pestering in 1979 when I got to see a very good Ipswich side beat us but despite losing, I gladly become a regular in the Milton Road with my cousin. I was lucky to see some brilliant players wearing the red and white during those times in the late 70’s to mid-80’s. I had a spell away from attending games due to work commitments when working at sea on the QE2 for 6 years but despite being away I always knew what was happening with Saints due to constantly ringing the Radio Room or mithering the Hotel Manager (an Evertonian) for the results 😊.

In the 90’s I was able to go occasionally when I could get a ticket but it was quite hard after the capacity reduced at The Dell. Moving to St Marys I purchased my season ticket which I still have in Block 42 of the Northam. I am also lucky to have been able to attend many away games and have travelled far and wide over the years watching the team play including overseas trips for pre-season and international matches … a highlight seeing Saints play in the Israeli desert against Bere Sheva.

I am an admin of Saints Archive on social media. Outside of football, I am a resident committee member of SO18 Big local, a big F1 fan and have a big passion for crafting, particularly knitting … so known on my Instagram as knitting_saint.
