The Saints Disabled Supporters’ Association had been looking for opportunities to expand its range of promotion to raise awareness of our activity outside of the normal football channels and we found the perfect opportunity just down the road from the football stadium at Solent University.
Mark Carter, who is responsible for sponsorships within the Association, contacted the University initially to see what opportunities there may be for the two Associations to work together and this relationship has led to the SDSA entering into discussions with Team Solent Boccia. For those of you unfamiliar with this sport, it is similar to bowls and is an international sport in the paralympics. For those interested in finding out more information check out the England Boccia website at www.bocciaengland.org.uk.
Following discussions we were pleased to agree a sponsorship deal with their team for teamwear sporting the SDSA logo and some boccia balls. The deal was for 2 full seasons and presented an ideal opportunity to raise the profile of this brand new sport and the profile of the SDSA by working in partnership.
The team itself has gone from strength to strength, presenting a pathway for young disabled athletes into Team GB. There are already 3 team members representing England at various stages of the Boccia pathway.
The profile of the SDSA and Team Solent Boccia has been further strengthened by the captain, Peter Langton, taking up a role with Boccia England. Boccia England featured the SDSA in their recent bocciathon and webinar.
We are proud to continue our relationship with Team Solent and this blossoming sport.
